Skyline
We made a summer bucket list with the kids which included mini golfing and go carts. We had a quiet, beautiful Saturday so we headed to Skyline in Rochester to do both! Nora claims she won mini golf because she was the first to hit her ball into the last hole:) She did concede that Luke won go carts though because it was undeniable that he was faster than the rest of us. It was a very fun afternoon together. The kids are at great ages to do fun activities together, and we were blessed to do many this summer!

This guy loves the hint at driving he gets with go carts:) |
We've been very impressed with Stewartville Public Schools and how well they have oriented the new sixth graders to the middle school. Last spring the 5th graders got to spend part of a day touring the school and had lunch in the cafeteria (the kids all claim the food is better, but it's actually the same as elementary;)). This August, they have had a one-stop-shop for forms, pictures, screenings, schedule pick up, a separate orientation run by 8th graders for the 6th graders, and, finally, a separate meet the teacher night. It's been great getting acquainted with everything new. Luke seemed very familiar and comfortable with his surroundings at the one-stop-shop, found his locker, memorized his locker combination (he is his father's son;)), and found his classrooms pretty easily too. He's a pretty quiet boy, so sometimes it's hard to know how he's really feeling, but he seemed more confident about it all than I feel as a new mother of a middle schooler. (How is that possible!?1?! Didn't I just meet Brent in 8th grade???) School starts Monday, August 28, so there is no turning back now!
Day Trips
My sister is a rock star! She works hard at Mayo, plays hard with her two littles, and makes time for many other people she loves in between. This August, she had two days off that she decided to spend day tripping with my kids, Grandma, and her daughter, Piper. One week they spent the day at the La Crosse Children's Museum and the next week they spent the day at Mall of America. Such great memories together.
Lost Tooth
I can hardly believe it, but Nora is old enough to start losing teeth! She told us early August that she had a lose tooth, which we pass off thinking it'd be a long time before it actually came out. Well, the night of August 17, it came out while she was eating a rice krispie bar:) She was SO proud and has referred to it and turning 5 as proof of how big she is now.
Routine Changes
With school starting very soon, we've been getting the kids gradually conditioned back into night time and morning routines. This summer they spent most nights sleeping in each other's rooms or camping out on the couches downstairs. We told them last week that they needed to start sleeping back in their beds during the week, so they had one last camp out downstairs. I love that they love each other and time together:)
