We Love Wednesdays

First Football Practice
Luke started his final year of flag football with Stewartville Youth sports this year.  We really enjoyed the league last year and are looking forward to a new season.  Brent and our friend/neighbor, Ethan, are coaching Luke and Eli together (the older kids are on teams of 4-6th graders)   The first practice this week was a full group practice lead by the high school coaches.  We really like how the high school coaches invest in the league and the kids think it's great too.  Here's to a fun season!

Last Friday of Summer
Technically, Luke started school Monday, August 28, but he also got Friday, September 1 off from school...so I'm calling it the last Friday of Summer:)  The kids and I had one remaining item on our summer bucket list:  a trolley ride.  We gathered Grandma and Piper for the ride too and spent the afternoon touring Rochester with the Rochester Trolley.  We did the Rochester and Mayo Historical Tour which brought us around downtown and southern Rochester.  Even though I'm a Rochester native and have read the Mayo Brothers' biography, I still learned some new facts.

Ready to ride!

Tip: If you're looking for a family fun tour, check out the Kids Fall Tours that stop by parks and the Farmers' Market.  We've done it in the past and the kids loved it:)

Nora is also becoming a girl after my own heart...this weekend after finishing our summer bucket list, she asked to start the list for next summer:)  I suggested we think of one for Fall instead.  It's now ready and hanging on the fridge!

College Football Season Starts
Brent and Luke have anxiously been awaiting the beginning of the Michigan football season.  Their first game was Saturday against Florida and they won.  A good day for Michigan and my boys:)

An Albert Lea Visit
It had been a while since we'd seen my grandparents, so we spent the afternoon visiting them in Albert Lea on Sunday.  We get to see them every few months throughout the year when they are in Rochester for medical appointments, holidays, and they even joined us for one of Luke's basketball games last year.  We're so blessed to have them near and to see them often.

Nora's New Word
The kids enjoyed lots of time with cousins over the long weekend and Nora cashed in on her older cousin's wealth of knowledge by asking her to spell words so Nora could write them.  This weekend's favorite new word:

Another favorite was "butt" which they spelled with foam letters in the bathtub.  The joy is never ending folks;)

Our Sweet Boy
I've always known we have a sweet boy on our hands, but the last few days Luke keeps catching my attention with his kindness.  Nora was sick with the flu for a day and a half and he was very concerned for her.  He checked on her right away when he got home today. Nora also asked for Luke to sleep in her room tonight because she was scared.  Luke reached out from his bed and held her hand while she fell asleep.
Luke also surprised me tonight by switching the laundry from the washer to the dryer.  It was so very thoughtful as we've been doing a lot of laundry while Nora's been sick.
I am so grateful for our kindhearted boy.
