Day Trip Down Memory Lane

The kids and I made a day/road trip to visit my lovely friend Liz today in Hudson, WI.  Liz and I have been friends since high school and we've stayed close ever since.  I'm so very grateful for her friendship and the opportunity we have to share our "adult" lives together now.  We lived together in college, were in each other's weddings, went to each other's baby showers, and we get together a few times a year to catch up and see each other's families.

It was a beautiful day for a visit.  We got to chat in the backyard while the kids played and we all enjoyed the warm sun on a cool fall day.

On our drive home, I thought it might be nice to try the more scenic route since the leaves are changing.  So, instead of following the I94 and Hwy 52 route home, we took a little trip down memory lane.  We drove through River Falls, where I went to college for one year (and when I lived with Liz).  It was incredible to see how much the small town had spread out with new developments, but the memory triggers were still there...

  • I remembered my Aunt Nancy, who lived outside Ellsworth, WI when I lived in River Falls.  We didn't see each other a lot while I lived there, but I do remember one special lunch date we had at Perkins.

  • I remembered the girls I had the privilege of living with for the year and the fun we had.

  • I remembered the wonderful kids I met working at Corporate Kids daycare (which is no longer open).

  • I remembered the Habitat for Humanity house I worked on.

  • I remembered Brent's visit to see me for my 21st birthday and the life changing day it became when he asked me to marry him.

  • I remembered my drives back and forth to Rochester on the familiar roads to see my fiancé and plan our wedding:)

My time in River Falls didn't last as long as I had intended (I went to start the social work program and finish my bachelor degree), but it was a very good year in my history:)

  1. Made me a little sad and nostalgic that my dear friend Florence is no longer alive and my reasons for going to River Falls ended. I'm glad we both have some roots there. It's a nice little town that tugs at my heart. Glad you take time to do so many meaningful things, Jen. I am so proud that you are mine. Happy birthday, today, too. I'm most glad that Brent came there on your 21st bday. All of our lives were improved by his best decision.
