The Best Week of the Year!

Nearly every summer, we get to spend a week with our "friends from Maryland" (aka The Ericksons).  This year was no different!  They stayed with us June 27-July 2.

We had such a great time swimming at the Stewartville Pool (aka the Stewartville water park to the Erickson kids), running at the All Comer Track Meet in Rochester, watching Luke (our Luke) play a basketball game, playing parents vs kids in backyard kickball (parents win!), and lots of time eating and playing together.  Added bonus this year is that Luke Picker and Jael are old enough to babysit the younger kids so Luke, Holly, Brent, and I got out for dinner and coffee dates without hiring a sitter!  The dads go time to play basketball, once in Stewartville and once at the Rochester Athletic Club; and the moms got to do some shopping at Real Deals in Rochester.  We also got time to hang with more Pickers (Brent's brother and fam and his parents) and good friends, the Riggins.

We are especially fortunate this year because Brent and I get to see Luke and Holly again in August!  We have a trip planned with another couple to celebrate Brent, Luke, Kyle, and I all turning 40 this fall.  It will definitely be a nice adult get away after a year plus of COVID restrictions.

We had another fun gathering over the July 4th weekend.  Brent's brother, Greg, and his family bought a cabin last summer with their friends.  We were able to check it out for the first time July 2-4.  We snuggly fit 13 people together for a few nights and had lots of fun on the lake.  Nora was especially excited to go fishing.  She has believed since she was 5 years old that she was old enough to fish. Brent and I both agreed that it would be best if Nora learned from Greg or Mekhi as we have very little fishing experience/knowledge.  Nora was very excited to get started and enjoyed a lot of fishing during our stay.  She also really surprised us in choosing to kayak on her own, ride on the multi-person tube behind the boat, and play in the lake on the lily pad float in the middle of the lake.  You would never have known she was so terrified of the water just a couple summers ago!  Jace really enjoyed the water too and did a good job wearing his life jacket.  We can thank Brent for this success because he told Jace it was his super hero suit and he was all for it!  Jace had fun playing at the beach, riding on the boat, and riding on the multi-person tube with Nora, cousins, and I.  Luke had the opportunity to stay a couple extra days after we had to head home and is still enjoying his time with cousins.

Brent, Jace, and I made it back from the cabin just in time for the Stewartville Summerfest Parade.  Thanks to my parents and sister already having seats, Jace and I were able to join them for the fun!  I knew Jace would love all of the vehicles so we went, even though we were half out of it after so many days of fun and a three hour car ride home.  And, as I suspected, Jace loved the trucks and tractors!

Parade time!

I haven't logged in for work since June 24 and I'll get back at it tomorrow.  It was absolutely a fun-filled 12 days off work with friends and family!  We are so grateful for the opportunity 💓
